Bell Ringer: (Type 1) Would you reveal or report a crime you witnessed, Why or Why not?

Task 1: Story "Someone Who Saw"

Task 2: Log into Google Docs. Set up a document, titled "Last Name CA 8._ SWS"
Making a table that has six rows and two columns. "Main Concept" for one column and "Details" for the other.
Rows: Who is Involved?, What is the conflict?/Is there more than one?, Why did the conflict occur?, Where+When did the story take place (setting)?, How is the conflict resolved?.

December 11
Bell Ringer: As students enter the room, ask them to log on and to pick up a And Justice For All book. Students should read over pp 8-9 (I read some of this in class) and also read over the timeline on pp 10 – 11. You should be reading to learn something about the history of justice.

List the following after reading:
a. Three things you learned about the history of justice. AND
b. Something you already knew/a question they have/something they would like to learn more about in regards to the history of justice.


Finish reading the story - fill out chart as they read. Chart attached here (if not already made in class on Google Docs - lable it SWS) - compete on Google Docs.

Students should also be able to answer the following questions after reading:

1. What motivates Grandma through out the story?
2. How does Grandma change in the story?


After reading...

2. Answer quesitons above
3. Answer the following quesitons...
a. Do you think Grandma was wrong not to report what she had seen? Why or why not?
b. In your opinion, did Edmund Catlin “get away with murder”?
c. How does Grandma change in the way she deals with the lynching?
d. In your opinion, why does Grandma share her story with her grandchild?
e. Do you think Edmond received just punishment or do you think he was shown mercy?
